Works well
  • Plain background that contrasts with the subjectA light wall for dark hair, a dark backdrop for blond hair or white pets. This lets the AI cut a clean outline without eating the hair.
  • Close-up: head and shouldersThe stencil window is about 7 cm wide. The face should fill at least a third of the photo; full-body shots lose the features.
  • Soft side lightLight from a side window shapes the eyes, nose and mouth, which is what draws the stencil. Flat front light or flash makes the face blank.
  • Front or 3/4 view, one personLooking at the camera or slightly turned, with the face unobstructed.
  • Sharp, large photoAt least 1000 px on a side, in focus and unfiltered. Heavily compressed chat screenshots lose detail.
Avoid
  • Dark background with dark hairThe hair blends into the background and gets cut off. Same with backlight and night shots.
  • Busy backgroundsPlants, people, signs or patterns confuse the cut-out and clutter the stencil.
  • Anything covering the faceGlasses with glare, caps shading the eyes, hair over the face or hands in front of it.
  • Groups or tiny subjectsEach person ends up a few millimeters tall. Make one stencil per person instead.
Logos and drawings
  • High contrast, no gradientsIdeal: black on white or a PNG with a transparent background. Dark (or opaque) areas are what gets cut out.
  • Bold strokesLines and letters should be at least 1 mm wide on the stencil: avoid thin fonts and tiny details.
If the result is not quite right
  • Hair or an edge got cut offTurn off "Remove background (AI)" or try a photo with more contrast.
  • Too dark or too busyLower "Shadows". If it looks washed out, raise them.
  • Noise or small specksRaise "Simplification" and lower "Feature detail".
  • The face is too smallUse "Zoom" and "Move" under Framing to center the face.
  • It looks like a negativeTry "Invert cut-out" and check the "On the cup" view.

How it works

A portrait, your pet or your café logo. The AI cuts out the subject right in your browser: your photo is never uploaded to a server.

  2. 2. Tune and preview

Pick a format, adjust shadows and detail, add raised text and watch the result on the cup in real time.

  3. 3. Print or order

Download the 3-color 3MF (white frame, brown figure, black text) or the STL, ready for your 3D printer.

Frequently asked questions

+What is a coffee stencil?

A cut-out template you hold over the cup: when you dust cocoa or cinnamon, the powder only goes through the openings and draws the image on the foam.

+Is it compatible with LatteShot?

Yes. The V1 and V2 formats match the exact dimensions of those cards. Latte Art Stencils is an independent project, not affiliated with LatteShot.

+Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The AI cut-out and stencil generation run in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.

+Which photos work best?

Close-ups on a plain background that contrasts with the subject, with soft side light. Avoid dark backgrounds with dark hair and group photos.

+Which files do I get?

A 3-color 3MF ready for Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer, a single-color STL and an SVG in millimeters for laser cutting.

+What material should I print it in?

PLA or PETG work well. We recommend 0.16 mm layers and a 0.4 mm nozzle. Hand wash with warm water.

+Can I use it commercially?

Yes, as long as you have the right to use the image you upload (your photo, your logo or an image you have permission for).
